I have always had an active interest in photography and in recent years I have been taking actors head shots.

I have directed and produced and as well as being an actor, for the last fifteen years I have worked successfully as a casting director and continue to do so, mainly in film and TV

(full CV at www.carlproctor.com). This gives me a clear understanding of what works when it comes to head shots.  

A lot of actors have been disappointed with their previous photo sessions. In order to feel confident that it will be different this time, you should obviously like a photographer’s work, but should also check that you will be given plenty of time at the session, that you will be able to see the shots as you go along and that the photographer doesn't hold onto anything in order to be able to charge you more money later. Be sure that you will be given all finished photos in colour as well as black and white as colour is being used more an more these days in Spotlight and web-sites etc and it's all colour in America.

The most expensive photographers are not the best ones so be cautious of high session fees. Try not to be influenced by over flashy web-sites with a lot of text about "what makes a good actor’s headshot", etc. Just look at the photos, if you like them, there is no reason why you shouldn't get some as good or better. 

My photo sessions don’t have a time limit or a limit to the number of shots.

We see the photos on a TV monitor as we go along and stop only when we are happy that there are plenty of shots that you like and that we have covered the range that will be useful.

I use natural light through the windows and can do outdoor shots as well if you wish.

All shots taken at the session will be put on a DVD in a high resolution usable format so there are no further charges down the line.
